LTC (Ret) Carl D. Wiley: U.S. Army (Ret) & DoD Civil (Ret) – Moderator:

Carl is a combat veteran of Desert Shield/Storm, the Gulf War, Operation Joint Endeavor, Former Yugoslavia, who retired from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel and Government Civil Service after 40 years of service. He is a senior Army aviator with over 1000 hours in helicopters, a paratrooper, a cavalryman, and a maintenance test pilot. He currently serves as the Second Vice-Commander for the Dallas – Military Order of World Wars chapter. Carl speaks on military history from World War I to the current day, as well as selected topics on logistics and deployments—the Wiley’s live in McKinney, TX.

The True Story of the Triple Nickles, America’s First Black Paratroopers. Tanya Lee Stone presents an allinclusive picture of the men’s struggles to realize that democracy was as Americans are still working forward.  The book underscores how the Triple Nickles served as a beautiful symbol of what we are as humans, not just as American’s. Despite the indecencies directed toward them because of color, the black paratroopers held rather to the decencies of people who honored their gifts of service to the nation despite color.
