DESCRIPTION:Description\n\nKenneth will be presenting an overview of current events happening at the BUSH LIBRARY here in Dallas.  His overview will include an update on the Bush Veteran’s Initiative\, an overview of the library and museum and an update on special exhibits planned for 2024 including a temporary exhibit of some of the most important freedom documents of all time (this will include the Declaration of Independence\, the Emancipation Proclamation and the Magna Carta to name a few). \nKenneth Austin is Charter Docent who has been with the library since 2012\, a Team Leader for the George W. Bush Presidential Center for 10 years and has over 4\,000 hours of volunteer service.  Kenneth holds a Bachelor of Science in History and Political Science from Texas A&M Commerce and a Master of Science in History from North Texas University.  He taught history and politics at various schools for over 39 years. \n \n \n \n

DESCRIPTION:Description\nThe recent attack on Israel by Hamas has exposed for all the world to see Iran’s influence and support of terrorist organizations. In this presentation\, Marc provides facts on why many of the Palestinian claims about Israel and the West Bank are false. As of November 2023\, Iran is supporting terrorist organizations in over 25 countries and uses them as proxies to attack its enemies. In addition\, Marc explains the history of the U.S. relationship with the Islamic Republic since 1980 which has\, essentially been an undeclared war. He asks questions that world leaders need to answer to stamp out Islamic terrorism. \n \nMarc is a combat veteran of Vietnam\, the Tanker Wars of the 1980s and Desert Shield/Storm and retired from the Navy as a Captain after 26 years of service. He is a Naval Aviator with just under 6\,000 hours of flight time in helicopters and fixed wing aircraft. Captain Liebman has worked with the armed forces of Australia\, Canada\, Japan\, Thailand\, Republic of Korea\, the Philippines and the U.K. \nHe has been the CEO of a $50M aerospace and defense contractor and a partner in two different consulting firms advising clients on business and operational strategy and sales and marketing. He speaks on American history\, from the American Revolution to the War of 1812\, as well as selected topics on aviation\, foreign affairs\, getting published and leadership. \nHis latest career is as an award-winning novelist. Five of his 13 novels have become Amazon #1 Best Sellers as well as winning other nationally recognized awards. The Liebmans live near Aubrey\, Texas. Marc is married to Betty\, his lovely wife of 53+ years.

DESCRIPTION:Description\nSubject: “The Korean War: 70th Year Retrospective” \nGeneral Carey enlisted in the USMC in 1945 before the end of WWII and was commissioned in 1948.  He served as a platoon commander in the Korean War in the battles of Inchon and Chosin Reservoir.  Lt Carey was awarded a Silver Star before being medically evacuated back to the US after being wounded in action.  In 1953\, he earned his Naval Aviator wings.  As a Colonel\, he served as the Chief of Staff for CINCPAC and later as the G-3 for FMF Pacific.  He served as a squadron commander for F-4 Phantoms in combat operations in 1967-1968.  Col Carey commanded MAG -24 at MCAS Kaneohe Bay\, HI in 1971.  In 1974\, BGen Carey became the Assistant Wing Commander of 1st MAW at MCAS Iwakuni\, Japan.  He directed Operation Frequent Wind\, the evacuation of Saigon in 1975.  MajGen Carey served as the CG of 2nd MAW at MCAS Cherry Point\, NC\, and before being promoted to Lieutenant General.   LtGen Carey was the CG of MCDEC\, MCB Quantico\, VA until he retired in 1983.  He earned a BS from George Washington University and graduated from the Naval War College.  LtGen Carey’s other awards include the DSM\, LM with gold star\, a DFC\, BS with Combat V and gold star\, 15 Air Medals\, PH\, JSCM\, and multiple unit\, service\, and campaign awards.  LtGen Carey’s biography\, The Flying Grunt\, will be available for purchase.  You will not want to miss this meeting to meet this true American hero.

DESCRIPTION:Description\nWHAT: The 2023 Annual Youth Leadership Conferences (YLCs) of Region VIII\, Military Order of the World Wars (MOWW) and affiliated organizations will be held in-person this summer. \nThe purpose of the program is to teach high school students the fundamentals of Leadership\, Americanism\, Patriotism\, the American Free Enterprise and Judicial systems; the fundamentals of citizenship. The conferences provide excellent speakers\, workshops\, networking with their peers from across the state\, and are a memorable experience for the high school students. \nApproximately 250 students are selected annually to attend these conferences\, with awards presented to the Outstanding Student at each conference. The expectation is that the students will return to their high schools with a better understanding of what a leader truly is\, how they lead effectively\, and impart that knowledge to their peers. \nWHO: Participants are high school leaders from the states of Texas and Oklahoma who are entering their Junior or Senior years in the Fall of 2023. They are selected by sponsoring Chapters of the Military Order of the World Wars or by other affiliated sponsoring organizations. \nHOW: Students are sponsored at no cost to them. The sponsorship includes all meals\, lodging and program costs. Parents provide their student’s transportation to and from the conferences. \nWhile at the conferences\, the students are always under adult supervision. The students are assigned to teams and led by previous graduates of the YLCs who serve as counselors and facilitators for the workshops. The students are housed in university dormitories with men and women separated. They eat in university dining facilities and meet in university auditoriums and classrooms. Some of the conferences have field trips to local attractions such as the President George H.W. Bush Presidential Library\, the National Museum of the Pacific War\, and the Alfred P. DESCRIPTION:Description\nThe border between the United States and Mexico has been a flash point for years and is a particular issue for border states like Texas\, where the impacts of the immigrant flow are obvious. This program will feature speakers who have been intimately involved with the situation on the border from policy\, law enforcement\, and military perspectives. While this issue is politically charged\, we’ll try to have a non-political\, non-partisan discussion\, exploring facts and solutions rather than assessing blame. Congressman Self will moderate the discussion. \nEVENT SPEAKER(S)\n\nTHE HONORABLE KEITH SELF\nCongressman Self is a West Point graduate and a 25-year veteran of the US Army. He served for 11 years as the Collin County judge and was elected as the US Congress representative from the Texas 3rd Congressional District last year. He serves on the Committees on Foreign Affairs and Veterans Affairs. \n\n\nSHERIFF JIM SKINNER\nSheriff Jim Skinner has served one of Texas’s fastest-growing counties since 2017. He is nationally recognized for his leadership in several important law enforcement areas\, including combatting human and drug trafficking and child exploitation. His career in law enforcement has spanned 32 years\, and he served for eight years in the US Air Force. \n\n\nBRIGADIER GENERAL MATT BARKER\nGeneral Barker is the Commander of Joint Task Force Lone Star\, activated in 2021 by Governor   Abbott to assist the Texas Department of Public Safety in their mission to provide security along the   Texas-Mexico border.  He previously served as the Chief of Staff at\, Texas Air National Guard\, and   in his 31-year career has served in the United States and Europe in various command staff positions.

He attended the University of Chicago where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Criminology\, Law\, and Justice. \nHe later earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Northern Illinois University. Ilir has taught Six Sigma methodology to the staff at City Hall staff in Fort Worth\, and currently is a Project manager for McKesson Corporation\, a pharmaceutical company with over 78\,000 employees\, headquartered in Irving. \nIlir will share his life experiences of living in one of the least understood countries in Europe and share with us his insights into that nation’s close relationship with the Communist government of the People’s Republic of China. \nAnd\, yes\, his name is a nod to the Illyrian tribes who occupied the Western Balkan Peninsula for many centuries. \nMeal price includes buffet by the Park City Club staff and water plus free parking.

DESCRIPTION:Description\nAn exceptional project has been accomplished for our chapter by Hereditary Companion and for three decades the Sports Director/Anchor on the local NBC nightly news in both DFW and Washington\, DC. He has developed and produced an incredible Protectors of Freedom video\, which consists of interviews of nine local MOWW Companions. The video\, his gift to our chapter\, profiles the interviewees\, their experiences\, military histories\, and motivations for military service. The video will be shown by Scott Murray on Feb. 7 along with a presentation by him of a leadership speech he has presented nationally to countless venues across our nation. Murray is eminently well-known nationally as a keynote speaker and volunteers often to MC veteran and military events. Murray plus several of the interviewees will have their books to offer the attendees.

DESCRIPTION:Description\nAIR AND NAVAL POWER IN THE 21ST (AND 22ND) CENTURY\nSunday\, January 29\, 2023 \nThe 2022 National defense Strategy tasks the U.S military with a list of strategic objectives\, for which it appears to be woefully inadequate. Naval and air forces in particular suffer from decades of over-use and under-investment. Investment today will provide not only the force for the remainder of the 21st century\, but the platforms for the 22nd century. A panel with Adm James G. Foggo (Ret.)\, Dean of the Center for Maritime Strategy\, Navy League of the United States and Ms. Heather Penney\, Senior Resident Fellow at the Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies. \nEVENT SPEAKER(S)\nADMIRAL JAMES G. FOGGO\, USN\, (RETIRED)\n\nAdm. James G. Foggo\, retired U.S. Navy\, is currently serving as the dean for the Center for Maritime Strategy at the Navy League of the United States. A retired four-star admiral\, Foggo is a 1981 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. He is also an Olmsted Scholar and Moreau Scholar\, earning a Master of Public Administration at Harvard University and a Diplome d’Etudes Approfondies in defense and strategic studies from the University of Strasbourg\, France. \nHe commanded the attack submarine USS Oklahoma City (SSN 723) in 1998\, which was awarded the Submarine Squadron 8 Battle Efficiency “E” award and the Admiral Arleigh Burke Fleet Trophy\, for being the most improved ship in the Atlantic Fleet. \nFollowing command of USS Oklahoma City\, he would go on to command eight more times to include: Submarine Squadron 6 in Norfolk\, Virginia; Submarine Group 8; Allied Submarines South; the U.S. 6th Fleet; Allied Striking and Support Forces NATO; Naval Forces Europe; Naval Forces Africa; and Allied Joint Forces Command (NATO)\, all headquartered in Naples\, Italy. \nDuring these command tours\, he participated in combat operations as the Operations Officer for Joint Task Force Odyssey Dawn (Libya) in 2011 and Commander Naval Forces Europe for strike operations against Syrian chemical weapons sites in April 2018. \nThroughout his career\, Foggo has been a champion of the Navy as an extended arm of diplomacy. He maintained close relationships with the U.S. ambassadors in his area of responsibility from Europe to Africa and into the Middle East. He sponsored numerous regional ambassadors conferences at his headquarters in Naples to address security challenges in the Balkans\, Mediterranean and the Black Sea regions. Throughout 2021\, he taught a seminar at the Foreign Service Institute on civil-military relations for rising foreign service officers. In November 2021\, Foggo was named to the American Academy of Diplomacy as one of a handful of retired flag officers who serve alongside more than 200 retired ambassadors with the common goal of enhancing American diplomacy around the globe. \nFoggo is a distinguished fellow of the Center for European Policy Analysis and a distinguished fellow of the Council on Competitiveness. He is a member of the board of directors of the Olmsted Foundation and the Naval Historical Foundation. He occupies a seat on the editorial board of the Marine Corps University in Quantico\, Virginia. He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Explorer’s Club of New York.\nHis awards include the Distinguished Service Medal\, Defense Superior Service Medal\, Legion of Merit and NATO Meritorious Service Medal. In addition\, he is the recipient of the French Chevalier de l’Ordre National de Merité and the Legion d’Honneur\, the Cross of Saint George (Portugal)\, the White Cross of the Naval Order of the Spanish Armada\, the Meritorious Service Cross from the Governor General of Canada\, the rank of Commendatore from the President of Italy\, and Knight of the Grand Cross of Kingdom of Two Sicilies. \nMS. HEATHER PENNEY\n\nHeather Penney is a Senior Resident Fellow at the Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies\, where she conducts extensive research on cutting-edge defense policy with a focus on the leveraging the critical advantage that only aerospace power affords. \nPrior to joining Mitchell\, Penney worked over a decade in the defense industry focusing on defense budgets\, supporting program execution\, and capturing campaign management. She served in the Washington\, DC Air National Guard flying F-16s and G-100s; she has also served in the Air Force Reserve in the National Military Command Center. She has also lectured extensively on subjects such as Air Force capabilities and force structure\, organizational command and control\, reforming the defense personnel system\, and other defense policy issues to a broad number of organizations\, universities\, and military institutions. \nShe’s a recognized expert on defense policy issues concerning data rights\, unmanned systems\, software Senior Resident Fellow the Mitchell Institute maintenance and operations\, autonomy\, and force structure considerations. Penney is established voice on Mosaic warfare\, JADC2\, and future operational concepts associated with information architectures. \nPenney received her undergraduate degree from Purdue University\, majoring in English with a minor in Philosophy. She earned her MA in American Studies from Purdue University as well.

Former Commander US Strategic Command; Astronaut and Test Pilot. \nEVENT SPEAKER(S)\n\nGENERAL KEVIN CHILTON\, USAF\, (RETIRED)\nGen. Kevin P. Chilton\, USAF\, Ret.\, is a senior fellow with the National Defense University in support of the Pinnacle\, Capstone and Keystone programs. \nGeneral Chilton completed a 34 1/2 year Air Force career as Commander of U.S. Strategic Command from 2007 to 2011\, where he was responsible for the plans and operations for all U.S. forces conducting strategic deterrence and the Department of Defense’s space and cyberspace operations. Prior to this assignment\, General Chilton commanded at the wing\, numbered air force\, major command and unified combatant command levels including serving as Commander of Air Force Space Command from 2006 to 2007. He flew operational assignments in the R-4C and F-15 and\, as an Air Force test pilot\, conducted weapons testing in various models of the F-4 and F-15. He also served 11 years as a NASA astronaut\, where he flew as the Commander of STS-76\, his third Space Shuttle mission\, and served as the Deputy Program Manager for Operations for the International Space Station Program. \nGeneral Chilton is a distinguished graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy\, with a Bachelor of Sciences degree in engineering sciences\, a Columbia University Guggenheim Fellow with a Master of Sciences degree in mechanical engineering\, and a distinguished graduate of the U.S. Air Force pilot training and test pilot schools. He also was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Creighton University. \nGeneral Chilton currently serves as an independent consultant and as a director for Level 3 Communications and Orbital ATK corporations. He is a trustee of the Air Force Academy Falcon Foundation\, a member of the Los Alamos and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories Board of Governors and a member of the Sandia National Laboratory Board of Managers. He is a former director of the Aerospace Corp.\, Anadarko Petroleum Corp.\, and Schafer Corp. \nRetired from the Air Force in 2011\, General Kevin P.
