SUMMARY:Military Book Club Breakfast Series
DESCRIPTION:Prestonwood CC\, 15909 Preston Road\, Dallas\, TX.  Please arrive by 7:30 a.m. to order from the menu.  Breakfast is $15.  Discussion starts at 7:30 and ends at 9:00. \nThe discussion will be guided by Robert Epstein: Texas Guard – Military Police Brigade; Civil Air Patrol University Instructor. \nYonah Bob and Ilan Evyatar describe how Israel has used cyberwarfare\, targeted assassinations\, and sabotage of Iranian facilities to great effect\, sometimes in cooperation with the United States. Even as it takes lethal action\, Israel has managed to alter the politics of the Middle East\, culminating in the Abraham Accords of 2020. Arab states such as Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates normalized relations with Israel\, and the holy grail of normalization with Saudi Arabia may yet be achieved. Despite the war with Hamas\, these Arab states share Israel’s concern about Iran\, remaining silent while Israel undermines Iran’s nuclear program. \nBob and Evyatar reveal how Israel has used documents stolen from Tehran in a daring\, secret Mossad raid to show the United States and the International Atomic Energy Agency how Iran has repeatedly violated the 2015 JCPOA nuclear agreement and lied about its active nuclear weapons program. Drawing from interviews with top confidential Israeli and US sources\, including from the Mossad and the CIA\, the authors tell the thrilling inside story of the tumultuous\, and often bloody\, history of how Israel has managed to outmaneuver Iran—so far. \nBreaking News: https://www.cnn.com/2024/11/22/world/iran-iaea-centrifuges-censure-intl-hnk/index.html \nIran announced Friday it was activating new advanced centrifuges – which enrich uranium for the country’s nuclear program – after the United Nations’ nuclear watchdog criticized the country for not cooperating with the agency. \nMore Breaking News:  https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/iran-orders-new-advanced-nuclear-centrifuges-to-be-brought-on-stream-after-iaea-censure/ar-AA1uzg4F \nRSVP to Bob Epstein @ macabee1948@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Military History Book Club
DESCRIPTION:Please arrive by 7:30 a.m. to order from the menu.  Breakfast is $15.  Discussion starts at 7:30 and ends at 9:00 a.m. \nThe discussion will be moderated by Robert Epstein: Texas Guard- Military Police Brigade; Civil Air Patrol University Instructor and Marc Liebman\, Captain\, U.S. Navy (retired)\, Naval Aviator\, award winning author and historian \nIn June 1944\, the U.S. launched a crushing assault on the Japanese Navy in the Battle of the Philippine Sea. The capture of the Marianas and the accompanying elimination of Japanese carrier air power marked a pivotal point in the Pacific War. No tactical masterstroke or blunder could reverse the increasingly lopsided balance of power between the two combatants. The War in the Pacific had entered is end game. \nBeginning with the Honolulu Conference\, when FDR met with Nimitz and MacArthur to plan the last phase of the campaign against Japan. Twilight of the Gods brings to life the last year of the war in the Pacific when the U.S. Navy won the largest naval battle in history. MacArthur made good his pledge to return to the Philippines; waves of Kamikazes attacked the Allied Fleets; the Japanese fought to the last man on one island after another; B-29s burned Japanese cities; and Hiroshima and Nagasaki were obliterated. \nIan Toll’s narrative of combat in the air\, at sea and on land are gripping as ever. He also reconstructs the Japanese and American home fronts and takes the reader into the halls of power in Washington and Tokyo where diplomacy and strategy were debated. \nRSVP to Bob Epstein at: macabee1948@gmail.com

SUMMARY:January 7 Luncheon
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe first untethered hot air balloon lifted off in 1783 followed by the first woman to fly in it the next year.  Aviation itself\, flying an airplane\, does not necessarily discriminate with the pilot at the controls.  The first woman to receive her pilot’s license was Raymonde de Laroche in 1911 just 8 years after the Wright Brother’s proved sustained flight was possible.  While women have always been involved with aviation\, it took several decades before they were allowed by law to fly anything in the military inventory.  In recent history\, women now fly and served in all aircraft in military service.  This is the story of Three Generations of Women Military Aviators.

On May 17\, 1958\, he married Jean Ann Olson of Kanawha\, Iowa\, and they remained married for 66 years. \nRollie joined the Navy in 1957 and was on active duty for 7 years\, deploying on the USS Ticonderoga aircraft carrier. He remained in the Navy for more than 30 years in the Navy Reserves\, spending a weekend each month and two weeks each year on various duty details. \nAfter his active duty in the Navy\, Rollie began his career in sales with American Hospital Supply Corporation\, which was later acquired by Baxter. His area of expertise was in the hospital clinical laboratory where he sold instruments and their supplies. \nAfter retiring from Baxter\, Rollie was actively involved in civic duties including his membership in the Military Order of the World Wars (MOWW) where he was the national Commander in Chief in 2002\, a member of his home owners’ association where he was president\, and a volunteer at Medical City Denton Hospital\, helping rehabilitation patients. \nThroughout his entire life\, he was always a member of his church choir and loved to sing\, making many life-long friends along the way. He enjoyed early morning coffees with Jean on his back porch overlooking Lewisville Lake\, declaring “a Navy man lives by the water”. He also loved his favorite sports teams including the Dallas Cowboys\, Texas Rangers\, Iowa Hawkeyes\, and even the local Lake Highlands High School where all of his children graduated. \nHe is survived by Jean\, his wife\, his daughter Kyle Vandeven (John)\, son Jeff Stevens (Stanna)\, daughter Kim Stevens\, three grandchildren Andrea Stevens\, Samantha Stevens\, Joshua Stevens\, and two sisters Nan Keith and Shari DeCook of Iowa. \nRollie will be interred at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held on Saturday\, November 23\, at 2:00pm at King of Glory Lutheran Church\, 6411 LBJ Freeway\, Dallas\, TX 75240. \nTo leave an online condolence to the family\, please visit our website www.teddickeywestfuneral.com
