SUMMARY:Military History Book Club March 14\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:Description\nMISSION COMMAND IN THE ISRAEL DFENSE FORCE is an official AUSA Book Program title. \n  \nWe meet at Prestonwood CC\, 15909 Preston Road\, Dallas\, TX. Please arrive by 7:30 a.m. to order from the menu.  Breakfast is $15.  Discussion starts at 7:30 and ends at 9:00. \nThe discussion will be moderated by Bob Epstein\, Texas Guard\, 19th Military Police Brigade \nThe Israel Defense Force have relied on mission command since their foundation. This essay collection explores Israel’s military strategy through the understanding of mission command and its relation to command and control. MISSION COMMAND IN THE ISRAEL DFENSE FORCE provides real-world scenarios that used mission command-written by the acting officers themselves. \nThe dictionary definition of “command” discusses “authority\,” however\, the idea of “command” is much more complex. Command can only exist when other people carry out the instructions issued by a commander. Military command generally focuses on a mission with clearly defined objectives that must be achieved through coordinated activities. Because the commander is responsible for achieving those goals\, command also involves responsibility. In the last decade\, the “mission command” method has become a popular mantra or buzzword. Preparing an army for war is a process that takes many years. It involves building the force and developing and training officers and soldiers for battle. Each army does so according to its own heritage and culture. Like any other army\, the I.D.F. has dealt with mission command over the years in its own unique way. This volume will demonstrate how\, for the I.D.F.\, mission command is not merely a technique\, but a culture. \nBrig. General (Ret.) Gideon Avidor joined the I.D.F. Armored Corps in 1957.  He participated in the Six-Day War as Tank Brigade G3; in the Yom Kippur war\, he was the 252nd Division G3. During the Second Lebanon War\, he was the Chief Armored Officer. He also commanded the School of Armor\, was the DY Armor Corps Commander and the Israeli Defense Attaché.   He graduated from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and the I.D.F. National Defense College. \n \nRSVP to Bob Epstein @ macabee1948@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Military History Book Club - Terror Tunnels by Alan Dershowitz
DESCRIPTION:Description\nMilitary History Book Club  November 30\, 2023 \nTerror Tunnels  by  Alan Dershowitz \nPrestonwood CC\, 15909 Preston Road\, Dallas\, TX. Please arrive by 7:30 a.m. to order from the menu.  Breakfast is $15.  Discussion starts at 7:45 and ends at 9:00. (New Start Time) \nThe discussion will be moderated by Bob Epstein\, Jewish War Veterans Patriotism Chairman. \nAt a time when Israel is under persistent attack – on the battlefield\, by international organizations\, and in the court of public opinion – Alan Dershowitz presents a powerful case for Israel’s just war against terrorism. In the spirit of his international best-seller\, The Case for Israel\, Dershowitz shows why Israel’s struggle against Hamas is a fight not only to protect its own citizens\, but for all democracies. The nation-state of the Jewish people is providing a model for all who are threatened by terrorist groups – such as ISIS\, al-Qaeda and Boko Haram. Having himself been in one of the Hamas terror tunnels\, Dershowitz explains why Israel had no choice but to send in ground troops to protect its civilians against Hamas death squads. \n  \nDershowitz wrote this book to warn the world that unless Hamas’ strategy of building terror tunnels and firing rockets from behind human shields is denounced and stopped – by the international community\, the media\, the academy\, and good people of all religions\, ethnicities\, and nationalities – it will be coming soon “to a theater near you”. Covering all the hot-button issues – from the BDS movement\, to the rise of anti-Semitism\, to the charge of war crimes\, to the prospects of peace – “Terror Tunnels: The Case for Israel’s Just War Against Hamas” is a must-read for all who care about Israel\, peace in the Mideast\, human rights\, and fairness.      \n  \nRSVP to Bob Epstein @ macabee1948@gmail.com
